OUT_OF_ENERGY and Other TRON Energy Errors
A red error in TronLink instead of sent USDT: what it means, why a failed transfer still costs money, and how to push it through on the second try.
What OUT_OF_ENERGY means
A USDT (TRC-20) transfer calls the contract transfer() function, and TRON's virtual machine runs that code for Energy. The network pays in order: your address energy first, then TRX burning at 100 sun per unit — but only within the wallet fee_limit. If energy runs out with nothing left to burn, execution rolls back with OUT_OF_ENERGY: USDT stays put, the fee does not come back — the network charges the energy limit up to the fee limit.
4 causes
1. Zero energy, little TRX. The classic: a wallet holding USDT but almost no TRX. A standard transfer needs ~6.5 TRX to burn; a 2-TRX balance can't pay.
2. Recipient never held USDT. You budgeted 65,000, but the address is fresh: a new storage row doubles the bill to ~131,000. Resources covered half the job.
3. Low fee limit. The wallet caps how much TRX the network may burn. A limit below the real need stops execution with OUT_OF_ENERGY even though TRX was there.
4. Dynamic energy model. Busy contracts (USDT is TRON's busiest) temporarily cost more. Yesterday 65,000 was enough; today it isn't.
The math
| Case | Energy needed | Burns without energy |
|---|---|---|
| USDT to USDT holder | ~65,000 | ~6.5 TRX |
| USDT to empty address | ~131,000 | ~13 TRX |
| Bandwidth past free 600 | — | ~0.35 TRX |
Rule: hold ~131,000 energy or ~13–14 TRX ready to burn.
1-minute fix: rent in the bot
1. Open @THENERGY_bot. 2. Top up (card, CryptoBot, LolzMarket, crypto, Stars). 3. Rent energy to the wallet address: 131,000 if unsure about the recipient. Delegation lands in seconds. 4. Re-send USDT — it eats the delegated energy, no TRX burns.
Rent 131,000 for 200 ₽Fallbacks: drop in 14–15 TRX and let them burn (pricey but works); stake ~5,000 TRX for a daily transfer with a 14-day freeze (volume only). Business payouts across dozens of addresses pull energy via API before each payout.
Other energy errors
| Error | Meaning and fix |
|---|---|
REVERT | Contract rejected the call (bad params), fee still taken. Check params and retry with energy |
OUT_OF_TIME | Execution time limit exceeded. Retry later with an energy margin |
| Insufficient balance | No TRX even for bandwidth. Buy from 5 TRX in the bot |
| Address not activated | Activate an empty address with the bot button first, then rent 131,000 |
Never again
Keep 131,000 on any sending wallet; amount doesn't matter (5 and 50,000 USDT cost the same — don't split transfers); keep a couple TRX for bandwidth; rent right before sending — energy lives 60 minutes.
